Manchester City supporters regularly refer to Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United aka, the Theatre of Dreams as ‘the swamp’. But why?

Manchester banter!

What we do know is…

Blues mock the red half of Manchester for having cockney accents – at least we have native Mancunian dialects, and in the main City fans were born or live and work within a few mile radius of Greater Manchester. Being born, or living south of the M25, similar to thousands of rags (#rags is another story) who travel to the swamp every other week just doesn’t cut it.

Banter between rival fans has been building up since the beginning of Premier League international break. However, normal service resumes this weekend with the Manchester derby at Old Trafford.

Old Trafford aka ‘swamp’?

According to some City fans the name ‘swamp’ refers from the numerous canals in the industrial area of Old Trafford. Canals – ‘man made rivers’ for those of you who are not native to the UK.
