‘They might sell him’ – Pundit says Man City man has uncertain future after ‘difficult’ season

|

Jack Grealish hasn’t had the best debut season at Manchester City, scoring just five goals with three assists in 35 games across the board. He’s third in the squad for chances created and successful dribbles but doesn’t command a regular starting place in 2022.

The 26-year-old hasn’t scored a Premier League goal since December 2021 and hasn’t managed an assist since October, so Paul Merson thinks his future at the Etihad Stadium might be uncertain.

He wrote in his Sky Sports column: “I think he’s finding it difficult at the moment. I don’t think he’s going to get used to (Pep Guardiola’s tactics). I think they might sell him, I might be wrong. Maybe not this summer, but is the lad enjoying it?”

Big things were expected of Grealish upon his arrival from Aston Villa last summer, but he’s firing blanks in the league and has been dropped in Europe.

The England international featured in five of City’s six Champions League group games but has amassed only 64 minutes of playing time in the latter stages, being an unused substitute three times from their last five.

Grealish has started only five of City’s last 11 league games, so he’s losing the trust of his manager. City paid £100m for the 26-year-old and may be regretting that decision after an underwhelming debut campaign – it was his signing that stopped City going all out for Harry Kane after all.
