Things Can Only Get Better

Regular Vital Manchester City contributor, Bundo sent us the following.

After a soul destroying loss against Tottenham Hotspur I found myself not wanting to walk away from the stands, but stood motionless staring into space. Soul destroyed? I certainly felt disheartened, however, I want you all to look on the brighter side and go and pick up your TARDIS key and come back with me to August 2009.

If I had then handed you a lucrative offer, in the style of Noel Edmonds, 5th place, a decent run in both cups and our striker being nominated for the PFA Player of the year and in the running for the golden boot you wouldn`t have just taken it…you would have bitten my hand off!

I also have some more positives for you – we now have a pre-season. We won’t have to play these annoying Champions League qualifiers and we can have a longer break, have more time to buy players and gel, let them have a longer break, and of course maybe Ireland will pick up the boxing again and turn into the player he was last season…or move on like some stories suggest.

Now I know what you’re thinking ‘but we could have got fourth. I wouldn’t have taken fifth at the start, I don’t want a pre- season – I want Champions League football’ but please, calm down, as I am here to add more positives to this situation.

It’s simple and it’s wonderful – the top four has been breached! For years it has dominated by Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal, and only occasionally been broken into, however it has always been fixed back up together, but now it has been breached once more and I have a funny old feeling that no super glue will patch the top four back up again, not in that same formation at least. It may not have been by us but it has been done none the less. It is official – The Barclays Premier League no longer has a ‘top four’ and it looks like next season, any one of them could win it!

Another point I would like to throw into the mixer (wish City would have done that more against Spurs and Adebayor be there waiting with back-up), is that for those of you who think that City will not get the top class players that we so badly want here because we are in the Europa League and not the Champions League, I would like to offer you another Noel Edmonds like scenario.

You are working at Frankie and Bennies, earning 50 pence an hour (I shall keep it simple)…if I was to offer you £100,000 an hour to work at McDonalds, which would you take? Exactly. Also, next season we will be going for the same target – top four. So, we want players that will get us in this spot – and they will come don’t you worry. So calm down dear – they shall come! Carlos Tevez came to us when we weren`t playing in Europe at all…nuff said!

Another positive? Of course! Here it comes…

Thursdays are better than Tuesdays – fact. So, football on a Thursday night will be wonderful and much better than Champions League football on Tuesdays. Firstly, Thursdays are closer to Friday…and Fridays are wonderful!

Secondly, there is nothing good on the TV on a Thursday, so when I go to the match – I won’t be missing anything! And finally, if we lose, there’s only one working day left in the week to have the ‘Michael’ taken out from you from rival fans, whereas Tuesdays there are three.

Ok, so maybe I’m clutching at straws with the Thursday is better than Tuesday argument, but my message is simple, stay upbeat! We’ve beat Chelsea twice, Arsenal twice, had a wonderful cup run, finished higher than ever before, made a legend out of Carlitos Tevez, have the likes of Boyata, Cunningham, Nimley, Ball, Ibrahim, Kay, and Weiss coming through the ranks, settled the defence, have a good few players in the England frame, and after just listening to the video with an interview with our chairman – we will have Mancini at the hands of it all! Things can only get better.

Tottenham Hotspur, if I had a hat, I would take it off to you – well done. I will not moan about the referee or pen the whole result on one player as I’m looking at a bigger picture.

This ladies and gentlemen is a good thing – just remember that. And…who’s to say that we won’t win the Europa League next season?

Bundo, over and out.
