Our usual pre-season friendly was very fortunate to see City not lose the game as Hyde United played really well, and with a bit of luck could have scored at least three more goals. City were fortunate that Hyde had seven players on the treatment table and so the remaining players that were used perhaps did not quite have the fitness required and so tired towards the end which let City off the hook. All three City goals came in the last twenty five minutes of play when Hyde were three nil up. City had three goalscorers; Daniel Sturridge, Sam Williamson and 16 year old David Ball.
City had replicated the first team of playing a 4-3-3 formation after David Ball replaced Marc Laird after only twenty two minutes. The three men attack combined for City’s first goal with Ball starting the move and Kelvin Etuhu flicking the ball for Sturridge to chase onto and place the ball past the keeper into the far corner. City’s second was a solo effort from Williamson, when a short free kick to Ashley Grimes was played out wide to Sam he ran in from the left evading many attempted blocks and tackles but finished well into the far corner. City’s third came deep into added on time as the referee was forced to leave the field of play and despite the club’s plea over the tannoy for a linesman in the ground the game proceeded with the referee’s assistant taking charge with just one assistant. Again all three forwards were involved in this goal; this time Kelvin started the move and Sturridge’s shot, but Craig Dootson, recently released by Bury, failed to hold on and Ball ran in to head the ball under the arms of Dootson and in.
City nearly got what they deserved a minute later however when substitute Lee Rick’s volley from a knock down was fortunate to be straight at Schmeichel in goal.
Channel M were there so I am sure you will be able to see the very few City highlights from the game later in the week.
City next travel to Northwich Victoria on Wednesday where I hope to see the performance that we saw at Altrincham ten days ago, but that team had a certain Willo Flood in the team who was sold off far too cheaply in my opinion.

City: Scmeichel(GK), Logan, Williamson, D’Laryea, M Mills(Capt.), Johnson, Williams, Laird(Ball 22), Etuhu, Sturridge, Grimes.
