Midfielder Yaya Toure has given his long awaited speech about his future and vowed to stay at City until the end of his contract – for the fans.

In a rather ironic twist of fate, Toure also called on the speculation about his future to cease now, despite the fact it was started by his own mouthpiece Dimitri Seluk, who he defended by saying he was a good guy and ‘quite strong’ sometimes when giving his opinions.

‘The fans have always been good to me, they’ve always been good to my family. I want to stay, I will always honour my contract. I don’t think about the speculation. It’s a big pleasure to stay and enjoy the next season.’

We all know how this has played out, Seluk took to the press first to complain that Toure wasn’t given a birthday cake, despite their being video footage of being given a birthday cake, and that twisted into some nonsense about it not being big enough or the right colour – we won’t talk about colour given one of his other interviews recently.

Everything culminated in speculation linking him mainly to PSG and even our near neighbours were linked as a possible destination, and this speculation ‘disappointed’ the Ivorian.

‘Everything is fine now. There was a lot of speculation, you know. I think sometimes it’s quite disappointing. I need to do something for the fans, it’s important to let them know. They’ve done a lot for me. The team is preparing well and we will try to win again next season.’

Well ideally, given it was his agent who has caused most of the outrage, getting him to shut up would be a start, but unfortunately he spoke before Toure did saying.

‘I would like to say Yaya will stay at City.’

He would like to say, could’ve phrased that better really.

‘He won’t go to any club. Everybody can stop speculation about this. Yaya will stay at Manchester City 100%. He has a contract, he will work very hard and I hope this season he will be the best player in England.’

Ok Mr Seluk you’ve spoken, I will obey you 100%.

Nice to know you’ve remembered he has a contract, and part of that is behaving in a manner that doesn’t bring the club into disrepute, so if you want the speculation to stop, instead of ordering other people about, order yourself about and stop feeding it by opening your mouth.

Nice that we can draw a line under this now and focus on the season ahead, presumably until a club he wants to move to expresses an interest and then maybe our new training gear won’t be comfortable enough.
