‘Training ground bust-up’ – Journalist reveals Man City player fell out with Pep Guardiola

|

Vital Man City previously suggested rumours of a fallout between Joao Cancelo and Pep Guardiola could come out after he was overlooked on the bench in Manchester City’s FA Cup win over Arsenal, and now the 28-year-old looks on his way out of the Etihad amid reports that the two had a ‘training ground bust-up’.

Mike Keegan and Jack Gaughan of the Mail Online say Cancelo was angry when told by Guardiola that he wouldn’t start against Arsenal and threatened to leave the club. The relationship between the two was reportedly ‘beyond repair’, so City accepted his request to leave.

Cancelo joined City from Juventus in 2019 and has gone on to make 154 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals with 22 assists. He’s won two Premier League titles and two League Cups under Guardiola, but the pair are now parting ways.

Pep has always said he will sell any City player that requests a transfer and he was telling the truth about Cancelo. Bayern will have the option to sign the 28-year-old for £61m at the end of the season, but they aren’t obligated to lodge a bid.
