According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have an ‘agreement closed’ for Eric Garcia that would see the ‘quality’ 19-year-old leave Manchester City and return to the Camp Nou in January. Barca wanted Garcia this summer but wouldn’t match our demands, so the deal fell through.

The £16.36m-rated man’s future has been uncertain at the Etihad Stadium for some time as he’s failed to nail down a starting place under Pep Guardiola and won’t sign a new deal. His contract is up in 2021, so we had no choice but to cash in rather than lose him for free next year.

Garcia joined us from the Catalans in 2017 and has gone on to make 25 appearances in all competitions. The Spanish international has only featured in one of our four Premier League games this season and finds himself behind Aymeric Laporte, Ruben Dias, John Stones and Nathan Ake in the pecking order, so it’s not a shock that he wants out.

Barca want Garcia to accompany Gerard Pique, Ronald Araújo, Samuel Umtiti and Clément Lenglet, and seem determined to land his signature.
