Blast from the past: Those of you who are old enough will remember ex-Manchester City chairman Peter Swales’ infamous interview on Kick Off – Friday December 1st 1989, in which he reveals the club have approached Oldham for permission to talk to Joe Royle about the City manager’s job, just hours before Oldham play Blackburn at Boundary Park.

He also denies Howard Kendall was ‘in the frame’ for the job – a total fib – and equates changing managers to buying a new television.

Who remembers Mr Swales and what are your memories?
