From Sky Sports:

Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Manchester City target Patrick Vieira has played his last game for the club. The France international, who hinted earlier on Wednesday that he was set to seal a move to Eastlands, played the full 90 minutes of Inter’s 1-0 Serie A success over Chievo.

Mourinho told reporters after the match that the former Arsenal ace was now heading for the exit door and expects him to return to the Premier League. City boss Roberto Mancini has been strongly linked with a move for the talented midfielder, who he knows well from his stint at the helm of the Nerazzurri.

Vieira is eager to play regular football over the coming months as he looks to secure a place in France’s World Cup squad for the finals in South Africa.

Goodbye

Mourinho told Sky Italia: ‘Patrick will say goodbye to us.

‘He will surely miss us. I don’t know where he will go. The club thought not to turn down his request to leave. This would have been the last year of his contract. Where he will go? I said I don’t know. In my opinion he will go to England, even if there is the possibility also he could go to France.’

‘I wish him every happiness.’

My View:

So, it looks like it’s done and dusted. Viera wants to move so he can get regular football to push for a place in France’s 23 man World Cup squad. This would mean leaving out Nigel de Jong, who in my opinion, has been our player of the season thus far. Viera would provide good cover in midfield with Vincent Kompany having moved to centre back and the long-term absence of Michael Johnson.

Viera’s experience would help the team and he would be an influential figure in the dressing room, but I am not sure if he can match the demands of the Premier League in his current state. However, I fully trust Mancini’s judgement, he’s hardly put a foot wrong as yet.
