Vincent Kompany joined the club this summer. The 22-year old, has produced some solid if not superb performances for the Blues, but his position means he`s not always credited with the compliments.

However Mark Hughes has told the Clubs official website:

‘People may forget how young he is in years and experience, but he has played a good deal at the top level throughout Europe, and he has a few big games under his belt,’

‘Playing in The Premier League will help him develop as a player. He has had a real impact since he arrived here. He’s quite intense at times, but very focused and a good professional.

‘He wants to be better than he is now, and he is enjoying playing in The Premier League,”

‘When he makes a mistake he can get very down on himself, but I think that’s a good trait to have. That shows the type of person and the type of player that he is.

Mark Hughes continues: ‘And he was very strong and resolute when he needed to be and is always looking to free people up in the forward areas.’

‘He plays very well at centre-back, we watched the game against Spain in the last international break and he was outstanding there.

‘Vincent himself enjoys midfield, though, and that’s where he is for us because it is a position where we are a bit light. That’s where he will stay for the foreseeable future.’

Vincent has become as important as Shaun Wright-Phillips and Robinho. We should not forget that he is only 22. Kompany is a player who will improve in time, and even though rumours have it Hughes is looking to add another DM to the fold, I`m sure Kompany will stay in and around the first team for years to come. In my opinion except for Shaun, Vincent is the best buy of the summer transfer window.

Is Kompany one of the best Defensive Midfielders around, or can Mark Hughes buy better in January?
