Resurgent City’s second half 10 minute goal blitz rocked Arsenal to defeat at a packed Eastlands. Here’s how the respective manager’s saw it…

Mark Hughes has taken terrific stick throughout his time at Eastlands, seemingly forever threatened by a hack propelled guillotine hanging over his head. He’s entitled to be contented tonight having seen City seal 5 consecutive Premier League wins and go 5 games unbeaten in all competitions this season. He told Sky Sports:

‘It was a great day for everybody connected with Manchester City. The atmosphere in the stadium – our fans were absolutely magnificent – the emotion of the day and for us to come out on top against a very, very good Arsenal side, we’re absolutely delighted.

‘There were a lot of eyes on us today, people were bigging it up saying it was going to be a proper test and the games we had won beforehand didn’t really count, so we took all that on board. We went out there with the right attitude, a good mentality and that shone through.

‘There are going to be stages in the game where Arsenal, because of the type of football they play, dominate possession, but I thought we didn’t give up that many chances. We were always a threat and always had a good variety to where we were attacking and we got our reward for our positive play.’

Sparky revealed that City’s more conservative approach after half time that led to Arsenal’s equaliser was abandoned and he changed to a 4-4-2 formation with Stevie Ireland injured and replaced by Rigsby Petrov.

‘That helped us and we scored almost immediately after that. From that point we were absolutely devastating on the break.
Bellamy, I thought was absolutely superb and Adebayor, his performance was there for everyone to see. It was a great team performance and there were some great individual performances along the way as well.’

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has now seen his side lose 2 games in a row and slip into a mid-table position with European competition coming up:

‘Unfortunately, we are going home with the same feeling (as having been beaten by the rags two weeks ago)..considering the way the two teams played and the number of shots we both had, we should have done much better.

‘In the second half, I felt we were in control, so the result is a bit difficult to take.’
