They came, they saw, they conquered. A fired up City completed the double over Chelsea with a jaw dropping win as the hosts discipline collapsed. Time for some quotes…

Wayne Bridge, inexplicably booed by unfocused Chelsea supporters from start to substitution had the last laugh and more besides…

Roberto Mancini

‘This was not the best performance under my management, that was at Stoke and we lost. We dominated that game but we didn’t do so in this one. We showed great spirit and great commitment after what happened to us at Stoke.

‘It was fantastic that we won because it was important for the three points, for the table, for the mentality and for the future as we battle to finish in the top four.

‘Wayne Bridge coped well with everything that happened and Carlos Tevez was tremendous. In fact if he plays like that he can go back to Argentina every week and come back before the game!’

Carlo Ancelotti:

‘John Terry did not make one mistake today.
The first goal was not his fault and I see no reason to take him out of the side. I am not interested in the non-handshakes

‘We made mistakes. We lost an important game at home. But we must look forward again and regain our confidence – we are still top of the league

‘We could have avoided some of the behaviour which led to sendings off. Ballack obviously made a mistake. We lost our balance and City counter-attacked well.’

Nigel De Jong:

‘The Terry affair had a massive impact on our squad. You can bet we were up for the Chelsea game. Believe me, we were doing it for Wayne. There was no other subject to talk about. We all supported Wayne, of course, and said to him: ‘Don’t say a thing about it. We’ll deal with this.’

Craig Bellamy:

‘Everybody in football knows what John Terry is like off the field. On the field he’s an outstanding player and captain for Chelsea.’

Fabio Capello:

“Until the World Cup, John Terry will not be the captain of England again. After the World Cup? If I remain as England manager? I think not. I asked for the captain to set an example for the young people; for the children and the fans.”
