Manchester City, 94 goals to the good are closing in on a century of them in all competitions this season with at least two months of an exciting campaign to go…

As statto’s reach for those record books again, post match reaction to City’s total football win over Blackburn…

Roberto Mancini:

‘It is important to be up there at the end of May. It was a difficult game. They always had 10 players behind the ball. We had a lot of chances to score. In the end it was important we won the game…Yaya has a problem in his leg, his muscle. Tomorrow we will see.’

David Platt

“I thought Mario Balotelli was very disciplined in his performance and his work rate was exceptional both on and off the ball…His temperament was good. He can be pleased with his work. All three strikers have scored all season. They are scoring goals but the team is creating them for them.”

Vincent Kompany:

‘We did the right things. We played in the right manner, the passion was there. We were concentrated…There is no such thing as an easy game for us. To win the league we will have to do the same week in week out.

‘People say being leader you have the pressure from those behind but I think it is the opposite.’

Steve Kean:

‘We couldn’t keep the ball…You know how difficult it’s going to be with the depth of the City squad. It was probably close to a £400 million squad with the lads on the pitch and on the bench, so they can rotate and add quality when they decide to rest people…I did think we should have had a penalty and I said that to the referee but we respect his decision…It was important to get through today without any injuries.

‘These games are very tough coming to places like this, but we have a very good spell of games coming up…we have got games against teams around us. But we feel a bit depleted right now.’

IN THE VMC FORUMS:

Spooks

‘Zabaleta put in a performance that should give Mancini pause for thought as to who should be the first choice right back.’

rojo2010

‘The team played absolutely brilliantly today. Just brilliant to watch.’

BlueDub

‘Is that possession stat a record? Another brilliant performance. Incredible passing football.’

The Kompany Ink

‘Yaya definitely adds a new gear we were missing.’

Skoorb

‘The quality of Kolarov’s cross made the third goal but the quality of Pizarro’s pass to set Kolarov up was superb also. Swift, one touch pass perfectly placed meant Kolarov did not have to break stride.’

Bama Engineer

‘Great stuff, looks like we’re breaking out of our slump since Yaya’s returned.’
