VMC’s Some Might Say: Bayern Backlash Booster

Just what the lawyer ordered. A thumping away win and solid defensive display to further shove the self serving Carlos Tevez and his entourage right out of the spotlight…

0-4 away from home, no matter where following a midweek Champions League away tie and defeat takes that bit of extra steel.

Mario Balotelli spearheaded a thrilling second half goal blitz at Blackburn which was backed by as superb a travelling City support as we’ve ever witnessed. 7,000 diehards roaring their support for their manager who flew to Italy be with his family not long after the final whistle.

David Platt:

I was confident we would give a good performance today. The games are coming so thick and fast that we can’t dwell on a defeat for too long, and we didn’t.

‘Against Fulham after our last Champions League game, we probably didn’t change things around enough so the gaffer wanted to freshen things up more today. We had half a dozen new faces against Blackburn and I think it showed.

‘Mario has worked really hard for the past six weeks and has had to wait for his chance…with Edin and Sergio starting the season so well, he’s had to be patient but he came on last week and changed the game for us and he’s done really well today and scored again.

‘Sergio has a groin injury and the early indications are that it is not as bad as we first thought. Having said that, if we had a game in the week or next week, he wouldn’t play. With the international break, who knows? It depends how quickly he heals up. It’s probably touch and go for Aston Villa, but we will look at it in the next 48 hours.’

Steve Kean:

‘A couple of weeks ago we played Arsenal and got a fantastic result and most of the fans went home very, very happy. We’ve lost today and the fans are not happy, nor are the players and nor am I. But I think we have to put it in perspective.

‘For the first 55 minutes the shape of our team was good and we minimised the chances of Manchester City, and it has taken a very good goal. We reacted by feeling a little bit sorry for ourselves and conceded another goal. It is certainly not something I am enjoying but I can take it on the chin.’

Adam Johnson:

‘If we didn’t score the first goal it could have quite easily been 0-0 but I think we just needed the first goal to settle everyone down and sometimes it takes a great goal or a bit of luck or a set-piece and luckily for me it was a great goal…we just cut them open at will the last 30 minutes and it could’ve been a couple more.

‘It was brilliant, obviously after missing the last couple of games with injury I was delighted to be back out there and playing football. I’ve known from the day I signed that you can’t play every game. We’ve got world class players in every position and it’s up to me to try and play well. Hopefully I’ve put that in the manager`s head tonight.’

IN THE VMC FORUM:

BlueDub:

‘Mario led the line brilliantly, scored a cracking goal and set up the counter attack for another. His all round game was spot on today.

‘Special mention to Nasri who put in a great display too, a goal and two assists, his best performance since his debut at Tottenham.’

StuMCFC:

‘Balotelli and Nasri were sensational.’

Citizhun:

‘The petulant one starts to show what all the fuss was about!’

rojo2010:

‘Very, very pleased with that performance.’

PhillyBlueMoon:

‘Heck of a performance by everyone…
Glad that we have two weeks off so that de Jong and Aguero can get fit. Another clean sheet without de Jong is a great thing.’
