Thumped in Holland, City are back in town with no time to dwell upon what might have been with Swansea arriving inside two days. Post Match Reaction to a chastening defeat in Europe…

Roberto Mancini:

‘I think that they played better than us, they played better football, it is probably my fault because I did not prepare the players well for this game and I take the fault for this defeat…When you prepare for a game, you think it could go a certain way, but instead it was a different game.

‘We changed for five minutes when we wanted to have a player in the hole, only for five minutes but on the pitch we are always eleven players. Three, four, five, six, seven, it’s not important, if someone wants to use this as an excuse, that’s ok, but it is not important…When you play you should be strong, there is one tactic – just run and score.’

Frank de Boer:

‘I know what we are capable of. I think we saw a good Ajax today that wanted to show something good. We played quite good sometimes. City didn’t have an answer to our play. There was a difficult time for us, but after that, we picked it up again and deserved the win.’

Siem de Jong:

‘I know what we are capable of. I think we saw a good Ajax today that wanted to show something good. We played quite good sometimes. City didn’t have an answer to our play. There was a difficult time for us, but after that, we picked it up again and deserved the win.’

James Milner:

‘We didn’t keep the ball well enough…we weren’t clinical enough. When you are playing in the Champions League and get chances you have to take them.’

Micah Richards:

‘After the second goal, we just crumbled. The lads are very disappointed with the way we played…it is the second time we have conceded after going to a back three. We will have to work on it. We are happy just to play, but I think the players prefer a back four.’

CITY ON TWATTER:

Sergio Aguero:

‘We didn’t put up a good game and we were defeated. Things are getting tougher – but now more than ever we can’t give up.’

Vincent Kompany:

‘We’ll pull together and get ourselves back on track. Defeat is part of the game, giving up isn’t.#MCFC.’
