A surreal night at a glacial SportCity realised a stunned City faithful while an Everton counterpart celebrating a cup final win. Post Match Reaction at VMC:

Roberto Mancini:

The Citizens boss was furious at times throughout the sheer frustration last night and rued City’s dreadful start:

‘We lost the game in the first ten minutes. We had a big chance to go top at Christmas after 81 years. It was a fantastic thing, but now we must restart. The season is long but we must understand that we cannot sleep when we play.’

Mancio’s only crumb of comfort was the resolution of Tevezgate:

‘It was important news but it was the only good news from this evening…It is very important for everyone: the club, the squad, for him. The situation has been cleared up and everything has gone in a good way. It was important that we stopped talking about this situation. We are happy about that.’

David Moyes:

‘This is not just a victory for us…We were playing a team who could be crowned champions … City have a real chance of that, and we have come here without a few players, so we should be delighted with the result…It is a challenge to come here, but I’ve always relished a challenge. We knew how well David Silva had been playing for City and that it would be very hard for us, but once we got our goals, we made it difficult for them to score. Our resilience and competitiveness were excellent.’

Tim Cahill:

‘The achievement is massive for us..we knew we had to work hard but what’s been going on in the last couple of months, we’ve been working, playing some good football and not got the rewards. But we’ve come to a stadium where it is hard to play and showed our mettle and played some good football too.’

Tim Howard:

‘They were on top of us most of the second half and then with the sending off, we knew we had to dig in and fight, we did that to be fair to everyone.’

snow leopard:

‘Frustrating night but we paid the price of being too slow and showing no passion for twenty minutes. You would not have thought we were playing to go top….maybe the pressure was too great?’

Stu MCFC:

‘We played well IMO and were desperately unlucky, at least we lost undeservedly unlike last season against Everton where they deserved the win.’

fifth column blue:

‘Don’t think Balotelli was bad, but he was a passenger for much of the evening. Was quite concerned that Yaya appeared to be only about 50% fit – which begs the question of why he was on the field in the first place? Barry was very good again, but I’m going to have to give my Man of the Match vote to Zabaleta – I thought the rags were the only team to single out an individual player and repeatedly foul him, but I guess I was wrong. Despite being in the wars he never gave up and was very strong defensively (any surprise the second goal came down his side while he was having stitches put in?) and provided a reasonable attacking threat.’

BOXING DAY VERSUS JOEY ‘ERROL’ BARTON ON VMC:
