A striking fact of the past year or so has been the clear and present team ethic at Manchester City reflected again in the post match reaction to a crucial win at Villa Park…

Roberto Mancini:
‘We have to keep on winning and see. This is football and nothing is impossible…We know it will be difficult but we will keep on trying. For us it was important to stay 12 points behind United and for us the championship is not over…

‘We are playing well. We had good chances and Aston Villa are a good team. It is strange that they are down there and for that reason I am happy with my team. We hope that maybe for the FA Cup or Everton Vincent Kompany will be back…Jack Rodwell is very unlucky, I was very happy with how he played against Chelsea and now he has done his hamstring.’

Paul Lambert:
‘I cannot fault the lads. We have been playing very well without getting the rewards we deserve.

We were in the game for long periods and everyone is disappointed to lose. We had one or two little half chances, but we were up against a good side. We came away with our heads held high.

‘I did not think it was a foul (in the run up to City’s goal). When you are a defender and you are near enough the last man, you do not take any chances. The players know they are playing well. It is different if you have been done heavily. We will keep playing and hopefully the rewards will come.’

Kolo Toure:
‘…It was not just me, the whole team defended well and attacked together and we need that spirit if we are going to be one of the best teams in the Premier League.’

Yaya Toure:
‘We have to keep on fighting for the fans and for the club. There was quite big pressure and I think today we needed to deliver. Villa played very well in the first half but after that I think we managed and it was a great three points. Today we showed we have a fantastic squad, we are sad with Jack, but this is an important day for us. Twelve points is a lot but it is not finished.’

CITY ON TWATTER:

Vincent Kompany:
‘Well done @MCFC, well done lads!! Another 3 points, another good performance! #MCFC

Sergio Aguero:
‘Oh, it’s so hard to watch from the sidelines! Another good @MCFC match. Great steal by @EdDzeko so Carlitos could finish it off. C’mon City!’

Pablo Zabaleta:
‘Great victory tonight!!’
