City’s sensational performance in the win over Sunderland has won worldwide plaudits, not least from Martin O’Neill who said The Blues were ‘electric’ – Post Match Reaction…

Roberto Mancini:

‘It was a very good performance. We played very well and took no risks. To score three goals I am happy for us today. It was not easy, Sunderland are a good team and it was a very difficult game. All players who played today played very well. Victory is important before the international break and in the last two games we played really well and we are improving.’

Martin O’Neill:

They are a very fine side…initially we didn’t help matters. We couldn’t keep the ball too well, but we were beaten by a much better side…While the game was still 1-0 we were still in with a chance but the more you press forward the more gaps you leave and they are more equipped than anyone to deal with that…City were electric. They are fine players, champions of this country and playing big Champions League games. It was always the possibility that if they got the second goal, they would cause havoc and that happened.’

David Platt:

‘In the second half we started to play with a lot of confidence and freedom. Games go for us and against us and whenever on the back of a bad result, we always get a reaction from top players and that’s what we got. We are not stuttering as much as people make out. We have set ourselves in a decent position, we are there or thereabouts.
…If you do a parallel with our first seven games of last season, in terms of goals conceded and points that puts us better off.’

Micah Richards:

‘It’s nice to get back on after so long. I thought the back four was outstanding today, yet for me James Milner was the man of the match. He was everywhere. An all round good team performance and I’m happy to be back.

Joleon Lescott:

‘We are disappointed defensively this season but we are happy with the clean sheet. We are looking strong now and since we have come back off the international break we have been playing well. It started from the front today. Carlos came back into the team and he pressed which helped us to get higher up the pitch.’

CITY ON TWATTER:

Vincent Kompany:

‘We played great today and we are where we need to be, well done boys!! #MCFC’.

David Silva:

‘Important victory today, now to think about the national team. Saludos #DS.’

Sergio Aguero:

‘I’ve said it before – we have a great team and we were going to bounce back. We played very well against a 5 match undefeated rival today.’
