VMC’s Some Might Say: Greece Is The Word

Nevermind Zorba The Greek, it was more a case of ‘Zero The Greek’ in last night’s Europa League draw in Aris where a goal never really looked likely. Post match reaction…

Roberto Mancini:

‘I think it will be a different game in Manchester. This result is better than one one. We have a chance because we are at home. It will be a different pitch.

‘I expect more from Dzeko – he needs to improve. He is a good player…I think he has the same difficulty as Fernando Torres at Chelsea, because when you arrive in January you don’t know your team-mates, it is not easy. He can change in every game. It is important that he improves very quickly. We should cross the ball more to him. Shaun should have done better than today.’

Shaun Wright-Phillips:

‘To come back from a defeat at the weekend and come to a hard place like this and get a draw it is a stepping stone. What we have to do next time is when we get chances, take them…It was bumpy out there and you had to watch the ball to the last minute and sometimes that made us lose out on a key pass.’

‘…I am happy and I am playing at the moment and I am just concentrating on doing well for the last three months for the club. To me that is the main thing. If I can help City win something that is great.’

Joe Hart:

‘It is not a bad result. We needed to come here and first and foremost not get beaten. It was a really tough environment and I thought the lads did well. The only reason it was nil nil was their keeper made two great saves.’

THE VMCers:

Stu MCFC:

‘Strangely enough Mancini has criticized Dzeko along with (more justifiably) SWP today. I’m not sure how Dzeko can be criticized since he produced a top class save from their keeper and also had that shot that was inches wide. He also played that sweet turning ball to SWP who let it run too far, killing the attack. It was Tevez who did nothing at all but our club is almost scared of offending him. SWP, on the other hand, deserves the criticism for delivering a total of ZERO/0/none/zilch crosses in the second half to Dzeko.’

pacific ocean blue:

‘The pitch was crappy, the atmosphere hostile and the short time since the Derby game were also factors to what was a decent result even if it was a bit turgid.’

rojo2010:

‘SWP has finally put to bed any chance of resurrecting his City career in my mind. He was absolutely crap. Boateng was terrible again. He looks uncomfortable, awkward, clumsy and unsure. Tevez and Dzeko = Non Existent Partnership. Good to see Balotelli back though. Hopefully he can finally show us what he’s got on a week-to-week basis.
How many times was Kolarov in ACRES of space out on the left and no one picked him out? Why do I not enjoy watching City playing? Think the last time I enjoyed a full 90 mins was against Fulham.’

NZ Blue:

‘To my mind it was an okay result…no damage done and one or two of our guys who need game time, got just that. If it happens, then I’m happy with some silverware in the cabinet. I’m more looking forward to our next league game and who and in what position Mancini will start some players.’

ThaiBlueFan:

‘Disappointing and Frustrating somes up the Blues performance for me, but I’d have taken the draw before the game so happy with the result. No outstanding player but Dzeko tried hard and was unlucky not to score.’

BlueDub:

‘Too many stray passes, too many underhit passes, not enough running off the ball to provide an option when we have possession. I could go on, but the draw is a decent result to bring back to Eastlands, hopefully we play somewhere near our potential that night and we should be good to go through.’
