Manchester City Football Club Statement:
‘Manchester City FC security officials are co-operating fully with Greater Manchester Police in relation to events leading up to the throwing of missiles onto the field of play, and between the two sets of supporters, during today’s game against Manchester United.
‘Manchester City wishes to offer its sincere apologies to Rio Ferdinand. The Club unreservedly condemns the actions which led to his being injured.
‘GMP’s review of all fan behaviour at today’s match will be fully supported by the Club, through the provision of CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. Following this review, and any associated police action, the Club will also apply its own disciplinary policies for any fans found guilty of offences.’
Roberto Mancini:
‘We won the league with the last touch of the ball last year. This can happen. But we didn not deserve to lose this game. We played very well…For 20 minutes they didn’t touch the ball and the first chance they got they scored a goal. We recovered very well and we dominated the second half. We wanted to win the game and we had chances. We have showed we are a really strong team and we can win this title again. We cannot win always. There is a moment when you lose at home and it happened today. But the season is a long one…Six points is not a big distance with twenty four games to play.
‘The team spirit is good…Now we need to win five or six games in a row to bridge that gap.
Kolo Toure:
‘It was very difficult out there. To be honest, we dominated the game…The second half was much better. We were all over them. They had two chances to score and the scored the last one at the end of the game. To be honest it was very harsh…We showed spirit and we fought as a team. We need to carry on like that and kill a game when needed.’
Taggart:
‘I have not known many more dramatic days than that. Today was a special one as City had not lost for two years in the Premier League at home. You could not take your eyes off it. I thought we played very well…We had a goal that was perfectly onside ruled out, and they go up the pitch and score. That is the kind of game football is and it can kill you and kick you in the teeth. They deserved to come back when it was 2-2, but up to that point, I thought we were far better than them.’

‘It is a fantastic feeling, it is a great day for us and we are now six points clear. We have waited a long time for this and we know how much it means for the fans. It was a difficult angle at the end but Robin has the ability to do it. Thankfully, he did. It is great to score here, but I am scoring for United and enjoying it. They have had a great home record and to stop it is a great feeling. It was crazy. It has been like that all season for us, and we were hanging on at the end.’
