Okay, so City didn’t go for it against the rags but they hardly set the world on fire. Not that today’s united fawning hacks thought that. Here’s the views of some of the main players…
Roberto Mancini:
‘I thought we played well in what was a difficult game. We did not have many chances to score, and it was the same for United. A derby is always going to be a very difficult match…A point is better than last year! Maybe we played better last season, but we lost. This time it was not a fantastic game but in the end it is a good point. We suffered in the last three minutes, but only because of what happened last time. I am not disappointed with the result, but I can understand if some supporters are angry but if they think back to what happened last year, it’s a good result.’
Sir Alex Ferguson:
‘In the build-up to the game there was maybe too much tension for it to be as open a match as many people thought it was going to be. City are difficult to beat on their own ground. That was obvious from the way they set their stall out in the second half for us to try to break them down. They are very powerful and experienced that way.
‘It’s a decent result. Chelsea came here and lost and if City had not had a man sent off early on against Arsenal the result could have been different.’
Vincent Kompany:
‘In the end it’s a good point and puts us ina good place in the league. We’ll take that point and make sure we win against Birmingham. We’ve now kept clean sheets against Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool and united…we’ve done well as a team and a unit to contain them. It’s a positive thing. Results and goals will come in the next games.’
Edwin Wanders Far:
‘I don’t think it was a good point for us. The game was quite one-sided. We got the ball on the floor and passed it from player to player but we didn’t create a lot because they shut us off well defensively…City didn’t really come forward and leave their defensive position. They were clearly aiming for a point and hoping for more whereas we really wanted to win and tried to play like that. It didn’t really materialise for us but they were more defensive.’
Bama Engineer:
‘Not the result I had hoped for, we were so negative…..I thought I was watching Serie A’
ThaiBlueFan:
‘Not a game to remember – it was like a boring game of chess with nobody wanting to lose. Still, look on the bright side, we are 4pts clear in fourth spot.’
Gary Cook’s Napkin:
‘I think the only positives to take out of that (98th minute Fergietime winner aside) is that clearly the rags looked at this game differently, more like they’d play vs Arse or Chelski – we’re inching further forwards and we have to build on this.’
StuMCFC:
‘They would have overrun us if we played the tired old 4-4-2, IMO. We had to play 4-3-3 to match their’s, as they have a very dangerous midfield. And it worked as they created very little in the way of great chances (we had the only great chance of the match).’
Scragg:
‘Very cagey game, both teams poor and decided to hold back. A missed opportunity against a weakened United? But in fairness it’s a point against United, a weakened United but still United none the less. Good point overall IMO.’
