Post Match Reaction to City’s gruelling 2-1 win over Newcastle from the Eastlands movers and shakers and the VMC Forum history makers…

Brian Kidd:

‘If you want to be in contention to win the Premier League you’ve got to be able to play, fight and dig results out and win ugly…All credit to Newcastle who I though were terrific today. We weren’t really at the races in the first half, but the players all knew that and their response after the break was terrific…I think three games in a week took their toll somewhat, but top teams have to cope with that and occasionally you will get performances that look a little lacklustre, but the best teams respond and dig results out, which is what we did today.’

As we go into the international break, The Citizens’ second in command looked at the bigger picture as Mario Balotelli, Aleksander Kolarov and numerous other City stars move closer to returning to full fitness:

‘We’ve gone second in the table and while the game might not have been for the purist, it was pleasing that we stuck at it and came away with three points. We’ve got a lot of substance in the squad now and after today’s performance, I know this team have a real chance this season…When you look at our bench, it’s only going to get stronger in the next few weeks so when everyone is fit, we’ve players in all positions who can change a game. I think the boss deserves great credit today because he changed things around a few times and then brings on Adam who comes up with the winner.’

Chris Hughton:

‘The news is not good on Ben Arfa. It seems as if he’s got a broken leg. When something like that happens and then to have some incredible decisions go against us, it’s hard to take…We came here knowing it is going to be hard enough, but two horrendous decisions went against us…My first view was that Mike Williamson played the ball and that the initial contact is outside the penalty box…’

And of Martin Atkinson’s other decision:

‘We’ve already seen it. Lescott loses his footing and of course – absolute penalty.’

snowleopard:

‘Well the mark of true champions is winning even when you’re playing crap! Based on this we have to win the PL!!’

robinwho?:

‘Not very convincing but great 3 points and 2nd place above the rags can’t be bad!’

eighthsin:

‘Poor performance and lucky with the penalties. Fullbacks contributed to most of our defensive frailties. ..However, we still won despite looking dodgy. 3 points and second in the league. Get in!’

Blue ponderer:

‘Thank god for that! The only ggod thing about this performance is that we won on a bad day with alittle help from the ref…’
