There’s been another tidal wave of debate and discussion out there following City’s third defeat on the bounce. Here’s what we’ve compiled at VMC Towers…

Roberto Mancini:

‘I am disappointed because we didn’t deserve to lose this game…right now, nothing is going our way and we are very unlucky. We have lost our last three games and I don’t feel we deserved to lose any of them, but sometimes these things happen – this is football and it can be cruel sometimes…We must pay more attention when we play and concentrate and though this is a difficult period for us, if we stick together and work hard we can back on track quickly.

‘The tabloids rage on us because City are headed by an Italian; I’m sorry to say, but the English are nationalists in football.’

David Platt:

‘The spotlight is on us, and if we lose matches, there is going to be negativity coming from outside. The good thing is that we know internally what is going on. There have been false or exaggerated reports…the negativity comes from outside the club. You come to the training ground every day and there is no negativity there.
…The players don’t like losing games, we (the staff) don’t like losing games. We’ve got the opportunity in the next three games to get back on it.’

Patrick Vieira:

‘What’s important is that as players we perform. If we don’t win games, that’s our fault and the blame should not go on the manager. He makes the choices and decides the tactics, but it is the players who have to perform. We win all together, and we lose all together. It’s not the manager on one part, and the team on the other.’

Arsene Wenger:

‘It is down to Manchester City to trust Mancini. Personally, I invite them to do that. When you create a new team, you need to have patience because it clicks a bit slower, but Manchester City has a good team.
…They have gone through a difficult patch – three games in a season where you play badly can happen to any manager in the league.’

Roberto Di Matteo:

‘You’ll have to ask Mancini whether he is capable of handling the pressure but you look at his CV and he is one of the best managers around…Every club has its level of expectation. They are expecting as much from him as any chairman expects from their manager.’

prt1975:

‘SWP, viera, Bridge and Richards should get dropped from a great hight, Boyata needs to go on loan for a season his last 2 games he has looked like a schoolboy.’

Gary Cook’s Napkin:

‘Shame that with 5 minutes to go a job done by (mainly) the reserves.

Right from the back we had issues and these players all need to go:

Given – distribution was just odd – would Joe have stopped the 3rd?
Richards – ok going forward, but skinned all too often at the back.
Lescott – average, a squad player at best.
Boyata – not sell, but his confidence is now shot – needs to be carefully managed for rest of season.
Bridge – gives the ball away time and time again, vastly overrated even now.
Viera – sluggish and gives the ball away – resorts to hoofing from the centre circle too often.
PabZab – hard work doesnt make up for lack of quality.
SWP – oh what’s become of my one-time hero? Shadow of his former self.

Ok, so on that showing only Manu, Johhno, Milner (WHY was he subbed?), Silva showed their worth. Time to step up to the plate – bin the squad idea in January and just play our best 11 week-in-week out.

Belfast Blue:

‘Just wish Bobby Manc had the same attitude as Arry at the Spurs,I really do. We have the players to do something great and i have to say I watched the Yids game with envy! Go for it FFS. we have the tools to go for games and not to set out just not to concede.’

Spud 1:

‘I was never confident about Mancini when he took over from Hughes.Having watched the performances of City since, I’ve still yet to see anything that would sway my original concerns. Having conceded 10 goals in our last 4 games, we can’t even say that Mancini’s defensive tactics are working. Wasn’t that one of the reasons Hughes was sacked? Having said that and although
the Jury’s still out for me, we now have to give him more time.’

seac:

‘I wanted Hughes out (and the Fulham draws are proving that right), and I believe Mancini does know his best team. When they are all fit, at the same time, and settled in to the PL, I think we will see the difference.’

Doody:

‘He has to stay …..it is beginning to feel like Groundhog Day with all this speculation.’

KK75:

‘How was fergies first year at United? I guess Mancini couldn’t do it worse at City. And if it takes more than half the time to take the first trophy at City with Mancio than it took Fergie at Manure then its okay to replace RM. (But this is almost impossible)…Mancio is one of the best manager in the world, and after a few years everybody will see it.’
