Manchester City have reached the UEFA Champions League with the type of gritty, battling display that has typified much of the season. Post Big Four reaction…

Roberto Mancini:

‘When I arrived, I said in two or three years Manchester City will become one of the top teams in Europe. We have everything to do this. But I am happy for the supporters and the club first of all.

‘When you have a target and get it, it is very important for your job. We deserve to be in the Champions League because we were between first and fourth position all season.

‘This is the first time for City in the Champions League and we have got it because the players wanted it. We have the players who deserve to play in it.

‘If we didn’t throw three points out of the window against Everton last Saturday, we could probably finish third I don’t know how we lost that game. Now it is difficult, but we have two games left.

‘But now it is very important to think about the FA Cup final.’

Vincent Kompany:

‘It doesn’t mean we are in the Champions League. We have seen with Tottenham there are some difficult games. Why not go after Arsenal? We have a feeling they may drop some points and we could get all six.’

Joe Hart:

‘It means the absolute world to finish fourth. With two games to go we’re going to hunt that third place down. I couldn’t care less how much the club has spent. We are the players we are paid to go out and give performance and get results.

‘We are a group of players, we are a team and we are delighted with what we got.’

Harold Redknapp:

‘It seems to me City can go as far as they want to go The sky is the limit…They have an owner who can spend anything he wants and they could go out and buy another four or five world-class players in the summer and try to win the Champions League. It won’t be beyond them…They have good players already but I wouldn’t say they are any better than us to be truthful.

‘Not too many teams play better than we do. That means a lot to me. I enjoy watching us play. I would rather that than us play awful football and keep lumping the ball. I want to enjoy the last few years I have got in football.’

The VMCers:

Hosko:

‘Great work ethic by the whole lot today. To their credit spurs completely went for it. Europe here we come!!’

Bama Engineer:

‘Let’s push on and go for third to go with a cup!’

eighthsin:

‘Micah played a blinder, amazing considering its his first game back. I thought Veira was poor against Everton, but today he changed the game and looked the part. Credit to Mancini for that tactical change. Kompany was great and Lescott continues to impress.’

Pacific Ocean Blue:

‘How many groaned when we pulled AJ for Vieira? Mancini takes a lot of flak for his substitution but he gets it right most of the time, IMO.’

Philly Blue Moon:

‘I think the whole team was MOTM tonight, regardless of the performance.’

kennyclementstache:

‘The reason we won was, once again because I made myself go to work and didn’t find out the result until after the game! Unfortunately I won’t be doing the same on Saturday. But well done everybody, players included!’

GaryCooksNapkin:

‘Immense game from all… so happy to be blue this morning!’

NZ Blue:

‘Wembley, here we come…. Go City !!’
