22 days ago City were written off in the title battle. 4 straights wins later, 13 goals scored and 1 conceded, it’s back on. Post derby win reaction across football…

Roberto Mancini:

‘United are favourites. They have easier games. Not because Swansea and Sunderland are bad teams but because we have Newcastle who are fighting for Champions League and QPR who are trying to avoid relegation.

‘This result changes nothing; we still have to win the last two games. Of course I am happy. I am most happy for the supporters who were magnificent but it is still an option that United win the league.

‘And him? (Sir Alex Ferguson) No? He never talks with the referee, no, never…’

Sir Alex Ferguson:

‘I can’t complain about the result, they were more of a threat from counter-attacks.

‘It was a damaging result, they are in the driving seat and we are up against it. They only need to win to two more games and they win the league, simple as that.

‘He (Mancio) refereed the game. He was out on that touchline the whole game haranguing the referee, the fourth official and the linesmen. The minute I come off the bench for a bad tackle by De Jong on Welbeck, he was out again. He can’t have it both ways.’

Samir Nasri:

‘…still 2 games left and thank you to the fans the best atmosphere since I’m in England we will fight until the end.’

Pablo Zabaleta:

‘Well done to the team and another 3 massive points to stay on top of the table again. Now everythig is in our hands!! Come on City!! Special mention to all the City fans for the support during 90 mins last night, I know this VICTORY means a lot. Thanks again!’

Joe Hart:

‘We deserve to be in the position we are in – we are a good team, with good players and good fans and we are going places…Hopefully we can do it this year. You have to ride on that wave and enjoy it.

‘There is no point in being robots. You have to feel that vibe and we felt the fans.’

Shay Given:

‘It is fantastic for the Premier League if, please God, Manchester City do win it, because Manchester United have won it enough times. I’ve got lots of friends at Manchester City and it would be fantastic if they could pick the trophy up, but they have got a tough game at my old club Newcastle at the weekend…I think they’re in the driving seat and hopefully they can get across the line.’

Nicky Butt:

‘We had to go there not to get beaten and the system was to stop City from dictating the play in midfield. City dominate midfield in 90% of the games. We have seen how well they move the ball. If United had played two up front we would have been wide open and they could have scored three or four. Let’s not underestimate Manchester City. They are a quality team, who have spent millions of pounds on world class stars…I am convinced if we had played two up front we would have conceded more than one goal.’

Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer:

‘City now have the destiny of the title in their own hands, a remarkable turnaround from the feelings of despair and an eight-point deficit that accompanied them on their journey away from defeat at Arsenal in early April.’
