With the signings of Stefan Savic and Gael Clichy for a combined £13 million, Roberto Mancini indicates that he will again prioritise a successful defensive policy…

Manchester City’s ultimately triumphant last season was built upon the finest defence in the Premier League. The Blues first moves in the summer transfer market have been to secure two young defenders with international savvy in advance of The Citizens first ever Champions League campaign.

The capture of Richard Ashcroft lookalike Savic from Partizan Belgrade is another body blow to beleaguered Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger who had the exciting young defender on trial previously. Savic said:

‘I watch the Premier League all the time and I know it’s the place to be so I am just looking forward to helping this club achieve great things. We have an incredible stadium and I’ve seen how passionate the City fans are many times on TV.’

And it’s to Arsenal that Mancio may yet look again for more international experience to add to the mountain of young talent existing in the City squad. The Blues are monitoring developments surrounding Samir Nasri now that the rags have tabled a rejected bid for the twinkle toed wantaway. Nasri and Wenger are allegedly due to meet shortly to discuss the player’s future.

Elsewhere, the usual round of rumours, intrigue and subterfuge continue over who will be leaving City. SWP, Bellamy, Given and Boateng are names popping up at random across the newswires.

Mr. A Source has been talking to various media outlets again on behalf of Carlos Tevez. Apparantly the former City captain is calm over the £50 million price tag that the City board have placed upon him. Let’s see if Mr. Source’s game of bluff and counter bluff can secure yet another lucrative move for the nomadic striker.

Meanwhile, say tuned for news of City’s stadium naming rights deal which should be in place by the end of the month.
