Wasters and Chancers

We all know the usual suspects who have flattered to deceive since joining Manchester City these past 6 years. Coming in on the back of a mythically forged international or continental reputation we’ve been let down badly by enough players to make up a starting eleven and some serious money has left the club in the form of sizeable transfer fees or treatment room wages.

If the words across the wires are to be believed this morning, then Claudio Strainer is about to do the decent thing, pack it in and go home. This means there’s more room for the likes of Didi McHammanaman, Tricky Trev and Sun Jihai to stretch out at Carrington, I suppose.

77 league and cup performances in almost 4 seasons is a pathetic contribution to the cause and I can’t say that Glasgow Rangers and Sunderland fans didn’t warn us. He hardly turned out for them either! To think we could have signed the once available DvB with the money squandered on Reyna. Painful!

Yet another abject ‘experienced’ failure begs the question whether it’s time to give over throwing money at players like the woefully one paced Bernardo Corradi, for another example and start looking to the lower leagues to bolster our squad. The MCFC Academy has already given us some fantastic service, so why not look towards similar potential from lower league clubs. Furthermore, Manchester City would be contributing to the English game at grass roots level. The legend that was Alan Oakes ‘phoning City about Ian Rush springs to mind.

In other developments, I’ve already mentioned how vital a season this is for us and we must keep the main assets of the squad together. For this reason alone I would not sanction Distin’s rumoured transfer to Chelski unless we are sure we can be sure of defensive cover…and because I don’t like them. The same goes for The Hammers moving for Joey Barton who for me is Manchester City captain in all but armband.
