A Big Club. What does that mean exactly?

BlueWolfie sent Vital Manchester City the following.

It can’t be how long a club has existed, because Nottingham Forest has been around since 1865. Neither can it be the size of the ground, how many fans turn up, or express their undying love for said club (see Newcastle United).

How about trophies? Chelsea have won a total of 14 major trophies in their history, but Everton have won 15. Perhaps it’s generated revenue. Yeah, sure, Manchester United create vast piles of it but at the expense of having a £700million debt.

Star players? Yeah, that didn’t work so well with either Leeds United or Newcastle United. Can we perhaps suggest league position? Aston Villa in the Europa League, so nuff said about that one!

No, there is no real defining point that can be attributed to what constitutes a ‘Big Club’, except perhaps for the mentality of its players and fans that think they are (but again, see Leeds United, and Newcastle United).

You are who you are, and you stick with it through thick and thin. I can at least say with my hand on my heart is what Manchester City fans have always done, and will always continue to do. Support the club I love and don’t forget the motto – ‘Pride In Battle’ fellas.
