‘When I die people will talk about how good Pep was’- Guardiola on expectations

|

Manager Pep Guardiola has been speaking to the media ahead of the game against Tottenham Hotspur, amid Manchester City’s two game match losing streak. The Spaniard had some words on expectations from neutrals and how the only way to remain at the Premier League champions is by winning games.

“When I die, people will talk about how good Pep was. But since we’re here, people expect we perform well and try to win games otherwise: ‘Pep out’. I want to stay at Man City and for that I have to win games, be there in all competitions”, the City boss said to the media.

Guardiola has backing of the vast majority of the fanbase, as the Spaniard has accumulated 11 major honours in his six and a half seasons so far at the club, including four Premier League titles and four Carabao Cups. However, City have had a mixed start to the 22/23 season, starting off impressively with goals galore, culminating in a 6-3 demolition of Manchester United. As of late, City have been well-beaten Brentford, drew against a poor Everton side, dismantled in the Carabao Cup by Southampton and controversially beaten last time out against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Finding themselves eight points behind Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side, and knowing tonight’s fixture against Spurs is a must win, Guardiola may have to reinvent the wheel when it comes to personnel and tactical set up in order to spring some life back into City who look void of creativity recently.

If anyone can claw back the deficit to Arsenal and retain the Premier League title for the third successive season, Guardiola is the man to do so.
