Who Are The Undroppables?

|

The subject of naming Manchester City player ‘undroppables’ is being discussed elsewhere. Which got me thinking.

Is there any such thing as an ‘undroppable’?

Take fitness and injuries out of the equation and the answer has to be yes. Hence one of the reasons why players train so hard. If they fail to impress (attitude, commitment and a whole raft of other reasons) then there will be someone waiting on the wings, eager to take their place.

Dead rubbers

My consideration in naming my list of so-called ‘undroppables’ is based on games that have some meaning and not dead rubbers, similar to Wednesday’s Champions League match against FC Basel.

My list is based on the season so far and is not necessarily in position order.

? Ederson – miles ahead of Claudio Bravo and in my mind the best keeper in the league.

? Kyle Walker – best right-back in the country.

? Fernandinho – solid in midfield. No one better.

? Kevin De Bruyne – no one can pass a ball like Kev. Stone walled undroppable.

? David Silva – as above.

? Leroy Sane – flair, speed, can score a goal or three. Totally undroppable.

? Bernardo Silva – started slowly this season but how times have changed. Takes defenders apart while gracefully speeding down the right flank, then cutting inside.

? Sergio Aguero – Kun has improved by another 30% this season. How can this be, bearing in mind what he’s done over the years? I never thought he had it in him. A Pep factor perhaps?

I’m up to eight.

Benjamin Mendy – hasn’t played since September but is close to being fully fit. I think I will be adding him into the above list if I do something similar this time next year.

Now it’s nine, two players left.

He’s not there yet but Gabriel Jesus has all the qualities to become an undroppable.

Now I am left with a whole host of contenders for the final spot. However no one’s name really sticks out. John Stones has the ability as does one or two others.

Pep must have a selection headache.
