Why Man City won’t sign 28 y/o despite being ‘possible option’ for January [Opinion]

Manchester City are first in the Premier League table for goals scored (43) this season, netting seven more than the second-highest scorers Arsenal (36) after 15 games, so Pep Guardiola doesn’t have a fervent need to strengthen his attack in January.

Nevertheless, Will Lancaster of the Manchester Evening News says one forward could be a ‘possible option’ on their winter wishlist – Leandro Trossard. The 28-year-old has made 120 appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion (2019 – present), scoring 25 goals with 14 assists, but his future is uncertain.

Trossard is out of contract at Brighton at the end of next season and could fetch a tidy penny if sold while his stock is high, so Lancaster believes the Seagulls might be tempted to cash in.

The Belgian international has scored seven goals with three assists from 15 Premier League games this season, so it’s easy to see why clubs would be interested.

Trossard, who has scored five goals with three assists from 24 games for Belgium, set Brighton back £15m three years ago but is worth more than double that now.

City aren’t likely to make a move though as Guardiola already has Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, Cole Palmer and Julian Alvarez who can operate out wide. Pep has played down talk of new signings in January too, so Trossard may not be coming to the Etihad.
