Manchester City striker Jo has returned to the fold following a successful loan period at Everton, but what now for the 22-year-old Brazilian?
João Alves de Assis Silva came to Eastlands last summer after City paid CSKA Moscow over £19 million for his services, a deal in my opinion signed and sealed prior to Mark Hughes appointment, but with only a handful of appearances before being farmed out on loan what can the 6″2′ forward expect in the near future?
With just six league appearances and one league goal to his City name Jo is going to find it hard to break into next seasons first team, and that’s without any new recruits moving their way to Manchester.
The current forward pecking order is always up for debate but with Felipe Caicedo hitting a run of form before the seasons end, Jo wouldn’t even make the bench especially when the gaffers favourite, Craig Bellamy sorts out his injuries.
The of course Valeri Bojinov has returned and is pushing for a first team place, while Ched Evans is chomping at the bit and eager to impress the gaffer.
Speculation is rife especially as we draw ever closer to July 1 and the start of the annual summer transfer window. The endless list of potential new signings is nothing but mind boggling and so in my opinion Jo’s days at Sports City are numbered.
Everton were reportedly interested in making last seasons loan deal permanent, however the Toffee’s simply cannot afford his wages, or even offer a suitable transfer offer.
Unless his fortunes change and quickly Jo is going to spend the next 12 months sat on the bench, or even worse, he’ll become the most expensive regular reserve team player in the history of Manchester City FC.
