World Cup heartbreak for SWP

The temptation to say I told you so is almost overwhelming, but I’m going to say it anyway, as are most City and other non-Chelsea fans who all knew the ‘dream move’ to Stamford Bridge would turn out to be a nightmare – we told you so !!

Having seen Shaun keep the Chelsea bench warm for most of the season and then when he did come on the pitch looking a shadow of the player he was at Eastlands, it is no surpise that Sven has overlooked him and has opted for Lennon and Downing instead. He’s not even made the list of standby players and that shows just how far he’s fallen away in such a short space of time.

Like me, I doubt that many City fans have much sympathy for him, and the real irony is that had he stayed and continued to play as he had been, he would have been one of the first names on the England team sheet.

I can’t help thinking there’s a big lesson for Joey Barton in all this and hopefully he’ll be sensible enough to grow up and learn from Shaun’s experience, athough you wouldn’t put money on that if you pardon the pun!

Quite simply, bad advice from those that surround him and short-term financial gain has led to self-inflicted banishment into the football wilderness, and it’s difficult to see quite how he’s going to re-capture former glories whilst he remains at Chelsea.

Despite all the comments from Shaun and Chelsea to the contrary, leaving City has been disastrous for him; there’s no disguising it Shaun, it’s been a bad mistake and you’ve paid a very high price – we did all try to warn you though !

Despite City fans disappointment about the way in which he left, I think we’d all like to see him return, even if it were on loan, so please Shaun (and Dad) swallow your pride, give Psycho a call and let City help you sort out your career – see you next season 😉
