Vital Manchester City newbie, hcc sent us the following.
These would be my three World Cup buys: Lucio, Mesut Ozil and Gonzalo Higuain.
I think Lucio is exactly what Manchester City FC need and would encourage him to join us. With the threesome of de Jong, Kompany and Lucio, we would have the capability of Nicky Reid-esque (read also Beckenbauer) to control and master the midfield.
Yaya Toure
I do not doubt Yaya Toure is a good player and will add competition when he joins at the end of the week, however his brother Kolo is not the answer based on last season’s performance. Mesut Ozil is my play maker albeit I know City bound (possibly) David Silva is proven. However, Ozil would be cheaper and has greater potential and I expect would be more suited to the English game.
David Silva
Again, I am sure Silva will make a mark should he join the City revolution however, I think Ozil is the better of the two, having noted his performance in the flesh at last year’s 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Germany’s then U21s – notably with Johnson, Milner and Onouha as captain in the team (Hart was on the bench having been the victim of an unjust red in the semis).
Acceptably, the England U21 coach Stuart Pearce had approached the game with a ‘not concede at all costs’ policy. Still with the player putting in such a display, our scouting network should have been on red alert well ahead of this World Cup.
Gonzalo Higuain
Gonzalo Higuain is an outstanding hit-man – potentially surplus at Real Madrid. Linking with his fellow countryman, who is one of the hottest properties around would provide a potent strike force.
That is how I would do my World Cup shopping to take us onto that next level.
I would then like to embellish the AJ approach into our full blown transfer strategy. Identifying players with potential, having displayed technical and tactical ability along with commitment and the right mentality.
James Milner
I do like Villa’s James Milner’s mentality, however, under that criteria he would have fulfilled most of his potential at the Birmingham based club and be too expensive for the return on investment, i.e. the weight of expectation that would be created would not be mutually beneficial. In other words we should leave him well alone.
Season 2009/10
On balance our position was fair and we had the opportunity with the odds in our favour on the last game of the Premier League season against Spurs, however, they were the better team and pipped us the final Champions League qualifying position – simples!
Europa League
Team being the operative word, a tour in this seasons Europa League is not a bad step in our natural evolution and who knows were we’ll end up.
That off my chest I think I will get on with some work.
