Worst Ever City Signing Heading For The Exit

How they mocked Steve Daley in 1979 and Lee Bradbury 1997. But for Roque Santa Cruz signed in 2009, it’s a Sinead O’Connor job…

Nothing compares to the demented pursuit and subsequent deranged outlay that Mark Hughes embarked upon to sign the then recently operated upon Blackburn striker across a summer of knock backs from the Lancashire club.

Rovers were no mugs and eventually pocketed £17,500,000 for the player with glass knees who gasped and wheezed his way from signing on the 1st July 2009 to a substitute debut appearance against West Ham three months later.

To this day, few Blues can understand what Hughes’ obsession with Crocky was all about.

The ever grinning Paraguayan has only registered a stunning 141 League and Cup starts across more than 11 years of football with Bayern Munich, Blackburn and City. He’s bagged 71 goals in that time which in itself wouldn’t be that bad of a ratio but the frequency of injuries is staggering.

The Frightening Facts:

£1.5 million signing Daley made 48 appearances for The Citizens scoring 4 times.

£3 million signing Bradbury made 40 appearances for The Blues scoring 10 goals.

For Manchester City, Santa Cruz has made a pisspoor 8 League and Cup starts scoring 4 goals at a cost of £4,375,000 each.

By all accounts Crocky is a thoroughly nice chap but also a bit of a hack’s dream in that his repeated gobbery has seen the club attract unwanted attention in the anti-City era.

His departure from SportCity cannot come quick enough and by here comes Fulham’s Leslie Hughes to put us out of our misery:

‘I’m interested in players of the quality of Roque…My interest in him before was there for everybody to see. Whether we pursue that in January is open to debate. I’m not aware that he’s available. That might change.’

Planet Blue will be thrilled to hear that Mancio this week has announced that Crocky can do one.
