Vital Manchester City resident Bitterblue sent us the following article.
With Chelsea sniffing after a new manager, isn’t it about time we start to show some vocal support for Mark Hughes, and persuade Abu Dhabi as well as Hughes himself that we value him as our manager?
Everyone agrees we need stability, but then some miss the irony of always wanting that stability with a different coach!
What Hughes has achieved thus far is massively under-estimated. He inherited a group of egos who had been massively under-performing for months prior to his arrival. He banned the agents and friends from training, and upped the training schedule significantly. The fact this upset so many players only served to highlight the poor attitude and work ethos of the self-important.
Like petulant toddlers, a few have chosen to test his authority and on every occasion Hughes has acted with dignity and common sense. January has given Hughes the opportunity to loan out the disruptive influences of Jo and Ben Haim, while Elano appears to be fighting for a first team game again without even a whisper of discontent.
Despite the press derision, he has acted wisely in the transfer market, spending less than the sunburnt scrotum at Tottenham, and refusing to be held to ransom on various over-inflated deals.
We now have a squad that is significantly better in quality and depth than this time last year. Hughes is finally making his mark on the team, with his own players, style, and commitment.
Despite this, we need to remember we are still a team of individuals. No team can add this many new players to a team and expect them to gel immediately, but already the team is showing glimpses of the exciting attacking football we will be capable of when the players share a wave-length.
I confidently predict we’ll improve further over the remainder of the season, and a top six finish isn’t unrealistic.
We’ve waited decades for success; surely waiting another season is a better proposition than bringing in a new manager and starting all over again?
Many thanks go out to Bitterblue.
