Vital Manchester City new signing, bluealltheway posted the following on our City Chat forum.
The problem for the City board is huge. Do you keep your bets on Hughes and let him buy players that would perhaps fit into his style, or do you cut your losses and get a Sven type with international rep and have him buy the players and manage the survival struggle?
If Hughes stays and buys players who do not work and we look to go down then it’s all too late for rescue from someone else. Tough decision.
Another very real point is whom will Hughes be able to get in January? Who in their right mind would join an outfit looking at Championship threat?
City have already started back pedalling on the big names saying that they should follow the Manchester United model and buy in the summer – BS!
They realize there is not a snowballs chance in hell they could pull in any names at this stage no matter how much they offer. I say, cut your losses NOW and have a negotiated established international manager on line ready to go for it and bring with him (through his influence) some good signings if possible.
I believe Mark Hughes is a good manager but you can be good and still fail if you have personality clashes with players and a subjective selection of squad.
MH is better equipped to handle the English Premiership solid ‘salt of the earth’ type player and the odd obscure international but he is obviously hopeless at managing the egos of high profile internationals. That has to be an art in itself.
In my opinion that requires a Sven type manager who speaks languages and knows how to coddle big egos.
Truly, if I were the Manchester City Chairman I would be having seriously sleepless nights right now. A BIG GAMBLE either way!
