0 goals and 0 assists since World Cup ended – Man City player struggling for form [Opinion]

|

Phil Foden hasn’t been at his best for Manchester City since the World Cup ended in late-December, resulting in him being short of playing time under Pep Guardiola.

The 22-year-old has made 4/6 Premier League appearances, 2/2 EFL Cup appearances and 1/2 FA Cup appearance since the domestic season returned, amassing 334/900 minutes across the board.

Foden has failed to score a goal or make an assist in that time and was called out by Guardiola for bad body language and poor application in training, so things aren’t going well of late.

The England international began the season in great form, scoring six goals and three assists from his first nine Premier League games, but he’s netted just one goal since October 2022 and hasn’t managed an assist in four months.

Foden has picked up an injury recently too, keeping him out of City’s last two league outings and their FA Cup fourth-round clash, so he can’t catch a break.

The 22-year-old was an important player earlier in the season, but Jack Grealish (1 goal and 3 assists from last 6 PL games) and Riyad Mahrez (3 goals and 3 assists from last 5 PL games) are outperforming Foden (1 goal and 0 assists from last 9 PL games) and are regulars in the starting eleven on merit.
