0 goals from 6 games – 19 y/o struggling for form after Man City exit [Opinion]

Liam Delap was loaned out to Stoke City by Manchester City this summer as he wasn’t in Pep Guardiola’s plans for the season. City had recently signed Erling Haaland to battle Julian Alvarez for a starting place in attack, so Delap was unlikely to get much playing time in 2022/23.

His stint at the Britannia Stadium hasn’t gone to plan, however, as he’s yet to get off the mark nearly two months into the season. The 19-year-old has zero goals from six appearances for the Potters and isn’t getting enough chances in games to break his duck.

Delap has amassed 485 minutes of playing time in the Championship this season and has taken just nine shots in total – one every 54 minutes. The England U19 international has only hit the target with two of his efforts all campaign, so it’s little wonder he’s yet to find the back of the net.

Delap may have been hoping to impress Guardiola with a successful loan spell away, but he’s doing nothing to prove he belongs in City’s starting eleven right now. Haaland has 14 goals from 10 games while Alvarez has three goals from eight games, so Delap is some way off the pair.
