0 shots on target, 0 chances, 0 dribbles, substituted off – Man City man struggled v PSG

Manchester City suffered a 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday evening and Raheem Sterling was one of many players who underperformed, scoring 5/10 in the Guardian’s player ratings.

The 26-year-old was stifled by PSG’s defence and provided little threat at the Parc des Princes, resulting in Pep Guardiola hooking him in the second half. It wasn’t a vintage showing and he can have no complaints about being substituted.

Against the Parisians, Sterling played for 77 minutes, failed to create a chance, had 32 touches, failed to have a successful dribble, whipped in only one cross, completed 82.4% of his 17 passes and failed to register a shot on target, so Guardiola swapped him for Gabriel Jesus who fared much better in less time.

Sterling has made nine appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal with one assist. The England international isn’t commanding a regular starting place under Guardiola, amassing 437 minutes from a possible 810, so this latest showing won’t help his future chances.

Sterling is without a Premier League goal in his last four games and has started just once since mid-August, so time will tell if he starts against Liverpool on Sunday.
