Patrick Roberts left Manchester City in January 2022 and joined Sunderland on a six-month deal. He made just three appearances in seven years at City, so his permanent departure was a long time coming.

The 25-year-old made 17 appearances in League One for Sunderland, scoring one goal with one assist while helping the Black Cats achieve promotion via the playoffs and earning a two-year deal in the process, but things aren’t going so well in the Championship.

Where will Manchester City finish in the Premier League this season?

Roberts has made 2/4 league appearances this season, amassing 41/360 minutes of playing time, as Alex Neil has preferred Jack Clarke and Lynden Gooch on the wing.

Roberts has twice been an unused substitute and is only getting limited playing time from the bench, so might he be disillusioned in his second season at the Stadium of Light?

The former England U20 international didn’t manage to settle for years at City as he was loaned out to six different clubs in seven years. He hasn’t started a lot of games in his seven months at Sunderland (10 of his 20 appearances) either, so time will tell if Roberts can turn things around in the North-East.
