Nathan Ake missed Manchester City’s 3-3 draw with Barcelona on Wednesday and 4-2 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday due to a knock that he picked up in the Sky Blues’ 3-3 draw with Newcastle United on August 21, but the 27-year-old may be close to returning ahead of Wednesday’s meeting with Nottingham Forest.
City welcome the newly-promoted Premier League outfit to the Etihad Stadium but won’t have a recognised centre-back on the bench if Ake isn’t passed fit in time. Against Palace, Pep Guardiola named fullbacks Sergio Gomez, Rico Lewis and Josh Wilson-Esbrand among the substitutes while Claudio Gomes provided makeshift cover too, so he’ll be desperate to have Ake back.

In his last injury update on the 27-year-old, Guardiola revealed that Ake started running on August 25, so he’s had a few days to push himself in training ahead of Wednesday’s fixture.
Premier Injuries give the Dutch international a 50% chance of featuring against the Reds, however. After the Forest clash, City travel to the Midlands to face Aston Villa on Saturday, September 3. Ake is sure to make that game if he misses out in midweek.
All should be revealed in Guardiola’s pre-match press conference though.
