Phil Foden has been in talks with Manchester City over a new deal without much progress being made and David Ornstein has revealed that his change in representation was what led to delays – a five-year deal worth £250k-per-week was mooted months ago.
City are confident that the 22-year-old will put pen to paper on a deserved contract extension and confirmation could be made in the coming days. Foden scored three goals in City’s 6-3 win over Manchester United on Sunday, so his improved contract couldn’t come at a better time.

Ornstein wrote for The Athletic: ‘City (are) hopeful that Foden will sign a new contract as early as this week following lengthy negotiations. Talks were delayed due to a change in his management. A deal is now very close to being confirmed. The 22-year-old (is) expected to sign fresh terms once the last details are finalised.’
Foden currently earns £65k-per-week at City and only Scott Carson (£25k-per-week), Cole Palmer (£13k-per-week) and Julian Alvarez (£50k-per-week) take home less money in the first-team, so he’s overdue a new contract after making 180 appearances.
The England international’s improved deal will tie him with John Stones (£250k-per-week), sitting just behind Jack Grealish (£300k-per-week), but he’s now earning more than Rodri (£220k-per-week), Ruben Dias (£160k-per-week), Bernardo Silva (£150k-per-week), Ilkay Gundogan (£140-per-week) and Riyad Mahrez (£125k-per-week) among others.
