After Manchester City’s Arab takeover on Monday it now appears Liverpool Football Club could be the next English Premier League side to join the Middle East revolution.
According to The Sun, Reds co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett are now mulling over a re-submitted £500million bid from Dubai International Capital (DIC).
The Americans took control at Anfield in February 2007 and their reign started brightly enough with the promise of a new stadium and the record purchase of Fernando Torres from Atletico Madrid.
Hicks and Gillett bought the club on finance, so any potential buyout would clear any lingering debts allowing Anfield boss Rafa Benitez the luxury of entering the January transfer market will bucket loads of cash.
Enter Sheikh Mohammed – Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, seventh richest man in the world and perhaps the answer to Liverpool’s prayers.
By all accounts, a fresh bid has been tabled for the Anfield club and a decision is expected within weeks.
This news, if proven accurate, will no doubt delight the Liverpool faithful.
