Bad news for Pep Guardiola as Man City man picks up injury ahead of Man Utd clash

|

Pep Guardiola may have an injury doubt ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby after John Stones pulled his hamstring in Monday’s Nations League clash with Germany. The 27-year-old was withdrawn after 37 minutes of England’s 3-3 draw and will now need to be monitored.

Stones has been a regular at centre-back this season, missing only one of City’s seven Premier League outings, but Guardiola does have defensive cover if he doesn’t return in time – Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji and Aymeric Laporte.

Stones struggled to hold down a starting place in 2021/22 due to injury and form, resulting in Aymeric Laporte partnering Ruben Dias, but he wrestled his place back in the side and will be disappointed if he has to miss out.

Guardiola won’t rush to make a decision on Stones, nor will he throw him in against United if he’s not 100%. The City manager is likely to reveal all in his pre-match press conference.
