Despite Aguero’s advancing age and injury problems this season, cash-strapped Barca consider him to be ‘one of the options’ to bolster their attack ahead of the 2021/22 campaign. Whether Aguero accepts their proposal remains to be seen, but he might be keen to link up with Lionel Messi – his Argentina teammate.

Barca are desperate for a prolific striker as Antoine Griezmann has scored only 14 goals in 42 games this season while Martin Braithwaite has only managed seven goals in 38. Messi has more than twice as many goals as the second-highest scorer, so Aguero might fix their problem in attack.

The 32-year-old has spent most of this campaign injured, scoring just three goals in six starts across the board, but he’s been consistent at City. Since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2011, Aguero boasts 257 goals in 385 games, so it’s easy to see why Barca are keen.

In other news, Man City are closing in on a summer signing and the player will cost £8.7m, joining in 2022
