Manchester City have today announced that work will begin on phase two of the expansion of the Etihad Stadium.

A further three rows of seats will be built pitchside, taking our total capacity to over 55,000.

Work began in March 2014 to add around 6000 additional seats to the South Stand and both that development plus the phase two development work are due to be completed in time for the kick off of the 2015-16 league season.

With demands from fans increasing following the South Side development, our waiting list now stands at 7,500 and the club have already sought and had planning permission approved for a third phase of development which could see another 6000 seats added, taking our capacity to around 61,000 when complete – the second largest in the Premier League.

Speaking to the Official Site Chief Commercial Officer Tom Glick said.

‘We have always been committed to bringing fans closer to Manchester City, to the players and to the pitch. Whether that’s through digital innovation, community work, international tours, or as in this case, physically allowing fans to be right next to the action, it is our top priority. We are already looking forward to seeing the expanded stadium in action for the 15/16 season.’
