City still need to strengthen the defence and midfield according to our recent poll. We asked:

What position do City still need to strengthen?

Defence 48%

Midfield 43%

Goalkeeper 5%

Attack 4%

It seems that midfield, for so long the biggest area of concern has been stiffened up with the arrival of Dabo and Hamman, and the welcome news that Barton has at long last signed up for another 4 years, although 43% of you still think it is a priority for City to strengthen.

However, 48% thought that it is now the defence that is top priority, no doubt fuelled by Distin’s persistent stalling over a new contract and a bidding war for his services already underway.

It looks likely now that City will get an offer of around 5m, which could be enough for Pearce let him leave. Distin is entering the last 12 months of his current deal and it is City’s last chance to cash in on him. His departure would leave a sizeable gap in the squad although Richards and Onuoha do have the quality to step into his boots.

Personally, I’m surprised Danny Mills is still around, having been told at the end of last season he is surplus to requirements – let’s hope Villa can sort themselves out quickly and sign him up.
