MCFC Academy legend Shaun Wright-Phillips will leave the Etihad Stadium before the month is out…

Ironically, the 29 year old England international winger has been in much improved form this pre season having previously struggled to consistently recreate the scintillating style of play for City that saw him sign for Chelsea bench duty in 2005.

Shaunie is one of the most approachable players this correspondent has ever interviewed and a thoroughly good fella. Very much one of us. We all hold precious memories of his never say die attitude and refusal to be knocked down and out. My own personal one is the howitzer of a shot he unleashed to seal a 4-1 rout of the rags in 2004.

City have given a number of Premier League clubs permission to approach Wrighty. Whoever signs him will be securing the services of a model professional.

SWP has clocked up 223 City League and Cup starts scoring 45 goals.

UPCOMING FIXTURES:

07 August 14:30: The rags, Wembley, CS
15 August 20:00 Swansea, Etihad Stadium, PL
