‘Deal is very close’ – Journalist says Man City’s pursuit of 21 y/o ‘will happen’ this summer

Manchester City are increasingly confident of signing Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer as they’re the only side willing to accept the large financial outlay and Gianluca Di Marzio believes the transfer ‘will happen’ because a ‘deal is very close’ between all parties.

He told Wettfruende: “Haaland coming – which will happen as a deal is very close. Haaland is a different type of player, (but) nobody knows if he’ll come and immediately be an untouchable striker for (Pep) Guardiola.”

The 21-year-old has scored 28 goals with eight assists in 28 games across the board for Dortmund this season, so it’s hard to see him sitting on the bench in Manchester. Guardiola has identified a centre-forward who could fill the shoes of Sergio Aguero, and Haaland has shown he can be prolific at any club he joins.

The Norwegian international scored 20 goals with six assist in 50 games at Molde FK (February 2017 – January 2019), scored 29 goals with seven assists in 27 games at Red Bull Salzburg (Janaury 2019 – January 2020) and has scored 85 goals with 23 assists in 87 games for Dortmund (Janaury 2020 – present. He’s also bagged 15 goals in 17 games for his country, so it’s hard to see him failing at City.

Haaland will potentially be joining a club full of playmakers and creative forwards who are second in the Premier League for goals (84) and shots per game (18.3), so he should thrive.
